Local 223 Wins NLRB Decision Re: Organizing Power Plant SOs
After nine weeks of deliberations, the National Labor Relations Board informed Local 223 UWUA that they won the decision and have the ability to organize the Supervising Operators (SO’s) in the Power Plants to join our Union, which would add about 90 more Local 223 members who would be represented. Local 223 had petitioned the NLRB for DTE Energy to hold this election.
Unfortunately, the company challenged saying they believe the SOs are supervisors under the law so they were forced to take their case to the National Relations Labor Board. They spent 4 days in a hearing in mid-January and just heard back from the Labor Relations Board. Voting will be conducted by mail and ballots were mailed on Wednesday, March 30. The ballots are due back to the National Labor Relations Board by Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
