More than 50 elected stewards from six of Local 270’s seven divisions gathered at the local’s Brooklyn Heights, Ohio, headquarters in late June for a full-day steward training designed to strengthen leadership skills and promote consistent representation across Northeast Ohio.
Local 270 President Chris Ericksen and Vice President Robert Scheffler opened the program with an overview of the local’s history, finances, lost-time and mileage procedures, and the newly launched UWUAid hotline. The training then shifted to division-specific breakout sessions led by each division chairman, where stewards reviewed their roles and responsibilities, grievance procedures, work rules, and the unique agreements affecting their members. Divisions represented included Cleveland, Ashtabula, Perry Craft, Perry Techs, Cleveland Water, and Berea Water.
The training reinforced Local 270’s commitment to providing its stewards with the knowledge and resources they need to effectively represent members and strengthen the union throughout the region.
