Utility Workers Military Assistance Program (UMAP)
The Utility Workers Military Assistance Program (UMAP) is a training-to-placement program that has helped over 700 veterans find good, family-sustaining careers in the utility sector since 2011. The accredited apprenticeship model provides specialized training and wrap-around support services for veterans and connects them with utility sector employers.
UMAP’s nearly 100 percent job placement provides active duty and veterans with the skillsets needed to succeed in the utility industry for in-demand gas, electric, water, and renewable energy sector jobs.
UWUA launched UMAP in Chicago 10 years ago in partnership with UWUA Local 18007, Peoples Gas, and Chicago City Colleges through a public-private partnership. It has expanded to become a nationally recognized and award-winning program representing every branch of the military and employer partnerships across several states. Our training programs are recognized and accredited by the Department of Labor and Department of Defense.
