WASHINGTON, DC (FEBRUARY 3, 2021) – Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), AFL-CIO director of renewable energy, Jim Harrison today was appointed to advise Governor Whitmer on worker-focused climate solutions as part of the Council on Climate Solutions. Committee members will support implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan introduced by the governor in September to protect public health, grow the economy while addressing the threat of climate change and support the governor’s objective for the state to become carbon neutral by 2050.
“I’m honored to serve among this esteemed group of individuals,” said Harrison. “I look forward to bringing worker-focused solutions to the table on behalf of those in energy sector and all working families across the state. We can grow the economy and create good, union jobs with the environment in mind.”
Harrison, who lives in Port Huron, is a long-time union member who has 40 years of experience in the utility industry. He currently serves on the BlueGreen Alliance National Steering Committee and BlueGreen Alliance Foundation board, the Michigan AFL-CIO Workforce Development Institute and Michigan State AFL-CIO boards, St. Clair County Michigan Central Labor Council, and as trustee for the UWUA’s Power for America Training Trust Fund. Previously, Harrison represented 10,000 members in Michigan as senior representative for UWUA.
