The UWUA supports the development of commercial carbon capture technology as an integral part of protecting high quality jobs and the environment. In the coming years, carbon management will be an essential, cost-effective strategy aimed at reducing emissions and generating new revenue streams for producers of carbon dioxide. Recent projects like NRG’s Petra Nova facility near Houston, Texas have proven the commercial viability of carbon capture technology for power plants, marking a true milestone in the evolution of carbon management systems.
In collaboration with the National Enhanced Oil Recovery Initiative (NEORI), the UWUA is working to pass federal legislation aimed at extending and improving the current tax credit available for carbon capture, known as Section 45Q. Ensuring future economic certainty for carbon capture developers will further empower them to obtain the private sector financing critical to making such projects reality.
