WASHINGTON, DC (SEPTEMBER 11, 2025) – Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) President James Slevin today announced dispatchers working for Elizabethtown Gas in Union, NJ, recently voted to become the newest members of the union. The group recently experienced many changes at the company and felt they needed the protection a union would provide.
“This group made the right choice to put the power of collective bargaining to work for them,” said UWUA President James Slevin. “The decision to unionize will help them seek better pay and maintain their hybrid work arrangement and more.”
The group saw the company cutting jobs and cutting costs earlier this year which prompted the organizing campaign. The group also noticed their pay was lower in comparison to similar jobs in the area, and even across other locations within the company. The dispatcher group – which takes calls from customers, meter readers, field staff and supervisors – handles time- and safety-sensitive inquiries.
