Vestas Wind Technicians Join UWUA

The UWUA proudly welcomes Michigan-based Vestas wind technicians as the first unionized Vestas workforce in North America, following a successful election in early March. This 11-member group, responsible for operating and maintaining 128 turbines — including major component replacements — voted overwhelmingly to join the UWUA. Their decision was driven by a desire to address critical workplace issues such as safety concerns, long hours, and inadequate compensation.

“These workers took a remarkable step forward to take back their power,” said UWUA President James Slevin. “We look forward to negotiating their first contract and addressing their key concerns.”

The new members will join Local 223, which also represents wind technicians at DTE.
