Trump Administration’s FMCS Mediator Firings Undermine Workers’ Rights

WASHINGTON, DC (MARCH 27, 2025) – Today, Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) President James Slevin released the following statement in protest of the Trump Administration’s firings of Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) mediators:

“Yesterday, the Trump Administration continued its assault on working families by firing all but a few Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) mediators. The mediators were given just moments notice before they were fired.

This unprecedented action undermines workers’ rights and cripples mediators’ ability to broker agreements in disputes between employers and workers. Our members rely on this important service. We support AFL-CIO’s action to file a lawsuit challenging the mediators’ firing. We will fight the Trump Administration’s actions. This important service helps give our members and all workers a voice on the job.”
