WASHINGTON, DC (JANUARY 29, 2025) – Today, Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) President James Slevin released the following statement in protest of President Trump’s removal of Gwynne Wilcox, acting chair of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB):
“President Trump’s action to fire Gwynne Wilcox from the NLRB in the middle of her term is an illegal and unprecedented attack on the board’s ability to protect workers’ rights. In 90 years, no other president – regardless of political affiliation – has sought to undermine the Board’s activities in this kind of targeted and personal attack against someone who has fought for working families her entire career. It’s worth noting she is the NLRB’s first Black woman to serve.
“Wilcox’s firing leaves the board without a quorum which will delay the Board’s decisions to intervene on workers’ behalf for several months or more. We continue to stand with Wilcox as she takes this decision to the courts.”
