Recognizing the need to invest in union members and the organization’s future, Local 102 hosted an educational and training conference in late August. The event drew 38 participants from across three states. Over a four-day period, instructors from Penn State University’s Labor School led sessions covering essential topics including grievance filing, contract interpretation, leadership development, active listening, and community building.
“We recognized the need to train the next generation of leaders,” said Travis Beck, the local’s president. “I’ve already seen several individuals from that training step forward and apply their newly acquired skills in meaningful ways.”
Beck also expressed gratitude to UWUA National officers James Slevin, Patrick Dillon, and Craig Pinkham for taking time to meet with and address members during the training.
