WASHINGTON, DC (SEPTEMBER 5, 2024) – The Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) announced today that janitors employed by Nelson Services who work in Con Ed generating stations voted to join the union. The unit – which consists of 28 individuals who perform janitorial work in New York City in a utility setting – reached out to UWUA regarding unfair treatment from their employer.
“We look forward to working with this group to address their concerns,” said UWUA President James Slevin. “This important vote is the first step toward rectifying the disparities these Nelson Services workers are experiencing in comparison to their colleagues, including getting paid on time and receiving the paychecks they’re owed.”
Additionally, the group seeks to address several other issues with their employer with regard to healthcare, accruing vacation time and sick time and clarifying job responsibilities.
