WASHINGTON, DC (APRIL 30, 2024) – Around 45 workers who work in New York City for Precision Pipeline Solutions (PPS) a subsidiary of Prime Line Utility Solutions, voted in favor of joining the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) by an overwhelming vote of 72%. The new group consists of around 45 highly-trained individuals who perform gas distribution work in high-rise and commercial gas leak response detection, riser work, gas turnoffs and shutdowns, integrity testing, meter exchange/repair, conduct investigations, and more. They work in New York City, Yonkers and Westchester and on major construction projects including Hudson Yards.
“There’s so much peace of mind knowing it’s not just one person versus the company moving forward,” said UWUA President James Slevin. “PPS workers should know they now have the full weight of the UWUA and all its members supporting them as they prepare to come to the negotiating table to bargain their first contract. Life is better in the union.”
The group – consisting of full-time and regular part-time A mechanics, B mechanics, gas technicians, and non-qualified gas technicians – initially reached out to UWUA in February with concerns about a hostile work environment and unfair treatment. They were motivated to organize to have a greater say in how they were treated on the job. The group will join UWUA Construction Council Local 175.
