Statement on Michigan’s Clean Energy Law

WASHINGTON, DC (NOVEMBER 28, 2023) – The Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), AFL-CIO released the following statement today following Governor Whitmer’s action signing a package of clean energy legislation into law. The following is a statement on behalf of UWUA Executive Vice President Patrick Dillon:

“The legislation allows for power source flexibility to support grid reliability which benefits the environment and working families who power Michigan’s future. We appreciate lawmakers’ efforts to engage with labor over the past several months.

“Importantly, this law raises the bar on how we build and construct energy projects using union labor. Additionally, we applaud the ways the law supports workers who may be impacted by shifts in the energy supply by establishing a community and worker economic transition office within the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.”
