Fabio Erickson Gomes Pires, a member of Local 369 residing in Brockton, MA, died at age 31 on October 17. He worked as an underground operating mechanic for Eversource. On July 12, Pires was conducting routine maintenance in an electric vault in Boston when an equipment malfunction caused an explosion. Pires suffered severe burns and was placed in a medically induced coma.
Pires was born in Cape Verde and immigrated to the United States with his mother in 1999. He graduated from the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in 2011 with a degree in electrical engineering and joined Eversource in 2016. He was well-liked by his coworkers for his willingness to go out of his way to help those in need.
He loved his family and is survived by his mother Natalia Gomes, father Domingos Pires, siblings Anthony and Ericksson Alves and Giovanne and Gianna Pires. He also leaves behind his fiancé Deana Calderon.
