Counting many veterans among its membership, UWUA has a longstanding commitment to veterans issues and groups. With their years of training and service in highly demanding and frequently technical jobs, veterans are uniquely qualified for careers in the utility industry. This is why UWUA has worked closely with organizations like the Easter Seals Dixon Center, and the Union Veterans Council to support and develop programs that will provide veterans with what they need most—access to a good paying job. By pioneering the Utility Worker Military Assistance Program (UMAP), we have trained dozens of veteran cohorts for careers in the electric and gas industries.
