Brothers & Sisters,
Over the last few weeks an ever growing number of grass roots social and labor activists from around the country have been converging on Wall Street in New York City to protest the social and economic injustices that have been perpetrated on the vast majority of working women and men, the poor and the disenfranchised in our country. Recent political, legislative and regulatory decisions enacted by conservatively biased politicians have hastened an even greater redistribution of wealth in our country, further enriching the top 1% of American citizens, while demanding the lost tax revenue is made up by middle class and the poor.
The wants, needs and rights of 99% of American citizens, are being sacrificed for the benefit of the wealthiest Americans. These protests that started in New York are now spreading across our Country. The Utility Workers Union of America strongly endorses the efforts of these brave Americans fighting for the rights to a better future for ALL American citizens. They are fighting to ensure we ALL have the opportunity to gain the American Dream.
I am asking that you support these protests by participating in events in your area and by encouraging others to participate, and also by donating food, money or any other resources these citizen activists may need. I urge you to visit the “Occupy Wall Street web site at http://occupywallst.org/ or the AFL-CIO web site at http://aflcio.org/ to find out about events in your area.
They are fighting the fight for all of us. We need to join them and let all our voices be heard. Only through a concerted, dedicated effort will the power brokers within OUR country truly realize that “We Have Had ENOUGH.” We must all come together and let those in power know who are trying to destroy our way of life that we will never give up and never give in, WE ARE ONE! D. Michael Langford President UWUA, AFL-CIO As one protestor said in the video clip (follow link below) we must “participate in a democracy that isn’t funded by news cameras”. Then share your plans for events or thoughts on the UWUA Facebook, or UWUA Forums to build strength in numbers.
