UWUA Local 270 Stands Up to SB 5

November 11, 2011

What I witnessed was the largest worker/labor movement I have ever seen.

What this showed me was we may be getting back to what we are really all about, seeing to it that we all make a decent living, that we stand up for and take care of each other. I could not be happier or prouder of what was accomplished. When I got the news from “We Are Ohio” around 9:15pm that SB5; Issue 2, was dead I immediately started calling and texting the news.

UWUA Local 270 members both active and retired along with their spouses and families were out there attending rallies, going on neighborhood walks, knocking on doors, passing out leaflets, sending emails, phone banking, and talking to their neighbors. They did an outstanding job in helping to defeat SB5, Issue 2. It was a long 8 months but all worth it in the end, see our pictures below.

I want to say Thank You to our Brothers and Sisters who took time from their families and came to Ohio from out of state to help, it is much appreciated.

The fight for the survival of the working class is not over, there are other states with similar issues that we now need to focus on and offer our help to. I believe that in 2012 an opportunity exists for Labor to help put worker friendly candidates in office across the country and attain a majority in both the House and Senate where we have an opportunity to get back some of what we have lost over the years.

Again, Thank You for all your time and effort.

Fraternally,

Frank Meznarich,
President, UWUA Local 270
