Our labor movement is on the march!
Last week, over 15,000 bank tellers in the U.S. declared their intent to establish this country’s first bank workers’ union! Workers delivered petitions, occupied the lobbies of corporate headquarters and began the grassroots organizing efforts that they hope will spread to bank workers across the country.
Many people don’t realize that bank tellers have a median annual wage of $26,410. They earn low wages, have poor job security, and are frequently pushed to engage in the kinds of predatory lending practices that we’ve seen in on a grand scale in recent years.
In a show of solidarity and labor strength, hundreds of thousands of bank employees around the world are expected to demonstrate!
